I ONCE KNEW A MAN

I once knew a man who treated class and the worship service like a harsh movie critic treats a new release. "Entertain me!" Arms folded, lips tight, expectant. "This better be good." With a ruthless eye and a critical ear, he sat and watched and listened. The bible class teacher, the song leader and the preacher…all were his prey. The teacher could have been better prepared, didn't ask his opinion, etc. The preacher went a few minutes over in his sermon…the song leader sang a few songs he didn't like. I once knew a man who came every Sunday morning to be entertained and not to be encouraged. He remarked that the Sunday afternoon game was more exciting than the Sunday morning assembly. I wasn't surprised. I would imagine that we have all known men like the one I just mentioned. It may be that the man I just described fits your profile. Have you ever attended Bible class and worship and remarked…"Waste of time. Didn't enjoy it. It didn't move me. I may not go back."
Everyone would like to be a part of a dynamic Bible study period, a dynamic exciting time of worship. Is it possible that Bible class and Worship are not what we would like for them to be, because we are not the worshiper that God wants us to be?
Several years ago there was a little teaching tract called, "A Better World Begins With Me." I am convinced with that truth more and more each day. But I also believe that better Bible study and better Worship "begins with me." Remember that God is a Spirit and those who worship Him must worship Him in Spirit and in Truth (John 4:24).

See ya Sunday,

WHY ME LORD? (Pt 1)

The words of a popular song of a few years ago sink deep in the hearts of the thinking Christian. In our land of abundance and phenomenal technology we ask… WHY ME LORD? WHAT HAVE I EVER DONE, TO DESERVE ONLY ONE OF THE BLESSINGS YOU GIVE?
Because of tremendous blessing, we have tremendous responsibility. The New Testament church had a fraction of our wealth… and still they took the gospel to the world. What did they have that we don’t have?
WHY ME LORD?
They had persecution, we have freedom. They had sandals for traveling over the country, we have high-powered cars. They had handwritten communications; we have the printed page and worldwide communication satellites. They had economic discrimination, we have economic privilege.
WHY ME LORD?
How is it that we are so privileged, but they were so successful in taking the gospel to the world?
WHY ME LORD?
We talk in terms of hours… they thought in terms of lives. We plan in terms of dollars… they worked in terms of opportunity. We center service around Sunday… they worked service around need. If God worked through the early church and the whole world heard… He will work through a more privileged people and the whole world will hear again. All we NEED is the spirit of the New Testament church… a trusting spirit that says …”Lord, I don’t know why it’s me, but use me as best you can.”
MORE NEXT WEEK.

See ya Sunday,

WHY ME LORD? (Pt 2)

Some folk have ten talents, some folk have one. The Ten-talent folk have to fight against the sin of overstretching the ego; the one-talent folk have to fight the sin of failure to use the talent they have. There is one thing that equalized the talents of men… talents are valuable ONLY if they are the possession of one who can make them work… Jesus.
WHY ME LORD?
Why did you give me the talents I have… you could have given them to someone else.
We need to get down on our knees and thank God for blessing us in spite of our ingratitude. We need to pray for forgiveness for our lack of faith, then get off our knees and commit ourselves to showing gratitude the only way we can… through service.
Of the man who has much… much will be required. We have much!
WHY ME LORD?
“BECAUSE I WANT YOU TO USE IT TO TAKE THE GOOD NEWS OF MY SON TO BIG SPRING, AND THEN THE WORLD.”
We start with the Undenominational Back to the Bible Campaign, work through our local congregation. We support with the Bible classes and the Lord has promised success. We die, if we fail to use what we have been blessed with.

See ya Sunday,
Ralph
